Event Management Overview

The event management program consolidates all of the events that are generated by the various monitoring systems into a single location, where it is then processed with the data to generate incident reports and alerts that can be acted upon.

Event Management is responsible for monitoring and managing a variety of external services. A message from one or more monitoring tools that indicates that something of interest has occurred, such as a log message, warning, or error, is referred to as an event. This notification can come from a single monitoring tool or from multiple monitoring tools. Event Management either pulls events from one or more external event sources or receives them from those sources to store them in the Event table. The list of raw incoming events is provided by the Event Management system. Similar to:
