Asset Management

Introduction

You can better monitor and improve your service by knowing exactly what is and is not being used in your IT infrastructure. Contextualizing your company's IT infrastructure is a breeze using the ExM Asset and configuration management database (CMDB).

Incorporating an effective Asset, CMDB and configuration management processes has various advantages such as a focus on service and asset management as well as operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

The ExM Asset and CMDB contains information on both asset management and configuration items. Each CI has properties, and the CMDB also has information on the links between CIs, which is essential for understanding, support, management, and reporting of your company's services.

While the Asset Management section tracks all related financial, disposition and audit attributes. The diagram below shows how the Asset Management, CMDB and their relationship to one another.

Note: An “Asset” is something that has intrinsic value to a person or an enterprise. A “Configuration Item” is an entity or thing that you want to track that is required for the delivery of a service. An Asset is often a Configuration Item, but a Configuration Item is not necessarily an Asset.
